Giant Giant Sand – Forever And A Day

Giant Giant Sand is the new expanded version of Howe Gelb’s Giant Sand for their forthcoming album “Tucson,” this 12-piece collective comprises of Thøger T. Lund, Peter Dombernowski, Anders Pederesen and Nikolaj Heyman (they’ve been a part of Giant Sand for the last 10 years) from Denmark, Lonna Kelley from Phoenix, Brian Lopez, Gabriel Sullivan and Jon Villa from Tucson, pedal steel player Maggie Bjorklund, violinists Asger Christensen and Iris Jakobsen as a string section from Denmark.

“Just when you thought Giant Sand couldn’t get any bigger, Howe Gelb has done just that by regrouping, expanding and magnifying his vision with the newest version of Giant Sand, calling it (appropriately enough) GIANT GIANT SAND. As a sort of homage, he’s named the album “Tucson” after the town he’s called home for forty years. This self-described country rock opera by one of music’s leading risk-takers, is set to be released on June 11th, 2012 on Fire Records.” (Fire Records)

Following 2010′s album “Anda Jaleo,” live recording of Federico Garcia Lorca’s popular folk song collection “Las Canciones Populares Espanolas” (1931), Josephine Foster and the Victor Herrero Band is set to release their second collection entitled “Perlas” (Pearls), due out on May 7th via Fire Records. The songs were recorded live in the studio on to analogue tape by Paco Loco in Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain.

“It is a jewel of a collection, with songs and poems selected by Josephine herself, gathered from dusty old scores and brought vividly to the present with warm performances full of flesh-and-blood emotion. Foster breathes new life into timeless traditional melodies, drawing from the Spanish-folk traditions of Castile, the Basque, Santander and the Costa Brava.”

日本ではWINDBELLが2010年の前作『Anda Jaleo』とのカップリングで5/7にリリースします。ブックレットにはジョセフィンとヴィクトールへのロングインタヴューが掲載されるとの由。詳細はコチラで。

Jackie-O Motherfucker – In The Willows

From the cult Portland, Oregon psychedelicists, Jackie-O Motherfucker releases their new album “Earth Sound System” on 4th of July via Fire Records.

“Jackie-O Motherfucker has always centred round the singular if fuzzy vision of Tom Greenwood an arty psych rocker from the high Dakota Plains. But perhaps he has found some certainty in his life as the most steady line up of JO MF is back featuring brothers Nick and Jed Bindeman (Eternal Tapestry) on guitar and drums and Brian Mumford (Dragging An Ox Through Water) on guitars and home-made electronics. Brian also recorded and co-produced Earth Sound System, which also features the voice of Dana Dart-McLean, and a collaboration with visual artist Chris Johanson, who made paintings based on the music for the cover and inserts.”
