“On April 29, William Tyler, a Nashville guitarist (Lambchop, Silver Jews) and composer, will release Lost Colony, the follow-up EP to his critically acclaimed 2013 release Impossible Truth. The limited-edition 12-inch features the new song “Whole New Dude,” a full-band reworking of “We Can’t Go Home Again” from Impossible Truth, and “Karussell,” a cover of a Michael Rother (Neu!) song.”

“The 12-inch was recorded and mixed by Joe Pisapia at Middletree Studios in Nashville in late 2013. The full band for this recording is William Tyler on guitar and keyboard; Reece Lazarus (bass guitar); Jamin Orrall (drums, percussion); and Luke Schneider (pedal steel guitar). In addition, the album’s front and back cover photography is the work of Tyler’s younger sister Elise.” –MERGE

「Whole New Dude」というタイトルは、ツアー中にM. C. テイラー(Hiss Golden Messenger)とジュリアン・ジェインズの『The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind:神々の沈黙-意識の誕生と文明の興亡』(1976著作、デヴィッド・ボウイが挙げるお気に入り100册のブックリストにも…)について話していた時に、ふと口をついて出てきたのだとか …。

“I was on tour with Wooden Wand and we were opening a West Coast tour for Swans. I had three books — Cadillac Desert, Ecology of Fear, and Hotel California — that I was juggling. They all had these themes of un-sustainability and illusion.” –William Tyler (via SPIN)

William Tyler – We Can’t Go Home Again (Shaker Steps session)

Nashville lifer and raw countrified shamanic solo guitarist
extrordinaire William Tyler has been a very in-demand musician who has
played with the likes of Lamb Chop, Silver Jews, Bonnie “Prince” Billy,
and Wooden Wand. In 2010 he released his first solo instrumental record
called Behold the Spirit to much critical acclaim. William has since
signed to Merge Records who will be releasing his next album Impossible
Truth due out March 19th.

William was in Lexington for a recording session with Wooden Wand, and
he very graciously agreed to do a Shaker Steps session with us before he
headed back to Nashville. We walked around and found a very cool
locally owned little leather shop called The Last Genuine Leather Co.
where they do custom work and provide an opportunity for local artisans
to sell their wares. William plays this beautifully moving song “We
Can’t Go Home Again” off his upcoming album. –Shaker Steps
